How contact discovery works, and what it does with your data

Contact discovery matches phone numbers you provide against CrikIQ members who have opted in to being discoverable. Because it touches your address book, it is worth understanding exactly what happens.

How matching works

  1. You supply numbers — by picking contacts on mobile (after an in-app disclosure), importing from a supported browser, or pasting them manually on web.
  2. On mobile, up to 300 phone numbers from your scan may be sent securely to CrikIQ's servers for a one-time lookup. Contact names are not uploaded.
  3. Numbers are normalised to international format so that local and international spellings of the same number match.
  4. They are compared against members who have explicitly opted in to discovery.
  5. You see profiles for the matches. Numbers that do not match a discoverable member return nothing.

Consent runs both ways

You are never discoverable by default. Being found through this feature requires you to have opted in, and you can withdraw that at any time from your privacy settings — after which your profile stops appearing in other people's results.

Equally, CrikIQ does not store your address book. Only the numbers you actively supply or scan (up to 300 on mobile) are sent to our servers for a one-time hashed lookup. They are not used to build a social graph, suggest connections to unrelated users, or target advertising.

Why clubs use it

Club cricket runs on group chats and phone numbers. Discovery is mostly used at the start of a season to connect an existing WhatsApp squad to their CrikIQ profiles in one pass, so that selection, availability, and scoring line up with real accounts rather than typed-in names.

Frequently asked questions

Is my whole contact list uploaded?

No. Only the numbers you explicitly select, paste, or scan (up to 300 on mobile after you confirm the in-app disclosure) are submitted for a one-time server lookup. Names are not stored.

How do I stop appearing in other people's results?

Turn off discoverability in your privacy settings. The change takes effect immediately for subsequent lookups.

Do I need to be signed in?

Yes. Contact discovery requires a signed-in account so that lookups are attributable and rate-limited.
