Squads, team records, and how club teams are structured

Team pages cover national sides, franchise squads, and local clubs. What is shown differs by level, and the way a club team is set up in CrikIQ affects what its records can tell you later.

Levels of cricket team

National sides
Full and Associate members of the ICC. Squads change per series, so a team page shows the current or most recently announced squad rather than a fixed roster.
Franchise teams
Squads assembled by auction or draft for a specific T20 competition and season. A player can appear for different franchises in different leagues in the same calendar year.
Domestic and first-class sides
Standing regional or state teams competing in national structures across multiple formats.
Club and league teams
Grassroots sides created and managed by organizers on CrikIQ. Rosters are controlled by the club, and often include multiple XIs from one club.

Squad roles

  • Batter — selected primarily for runs. Openers, top order, middle order, and finishers are distinct jobs.
  • Bowler — pace or spin. In limited-overs cricket, no bowler may bowl more than a fifth of the innings.
  • All-rounder — selected for a genuine contribution with both bat and ball, which is what lets a captain balance a XI.
  • Wicket-keeper — the only fielder permitted gloves and external leg guards. Most sides carry exactly one in the XI.
  • Captain — sets the field and manages bowling changes. Listed separately because it materially affects how a side plays.

Setting up a club team properly

Two decisions at setup time determine whether a club's records are useful a season later.

  1. Create one team per XI, not one per club. If a club runs a First XI and a Second XI in different divisions, separate teams keep the standings and player records straight.
  2. Link players to member profiles rather than typing names into a scorebook. An unlinked name produces a fresh statistical identity every time it is spelled differently, and merging them afterwards is tedious.

Squads can carry more players than any single XI needs. Selecting a XI per fixture from the wider squad is what keeps availability, selection, and the resulting career records consistent.

What team records show

Team pages carry recent results, upcoming fixtures, and — where a team competes in a season run on CrikIQ — its standing, net run rate, and season record. Head-to-head history between two clubs accumulates from scored fixtures, so it becomes genuinely useful in a second or third season rather than immediately.

Should a club with two XIs create one team or two?

Two. Separate teams keep division standings, squad lists, and player records accurate. A single combined team mixes results from different competitions into one record.

Can a player appear for more than one team?

Yes. Players can be in several squads — a club side, a representative team, and a tournament squad — and their career records aggregate across all of them.

Who can edit a club roster?

Club admins and league secretaries with the relevant role. Ordinary members can view the roster but not change it.
